Memorial Mass for Wendell and his son, Brent will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Aurora with Fr. David Forsman celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Inurnment will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.
Wendell Austin Corbett, 85, of Hoyt Lakes died September 29, 2025 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora.
Wendell was born on June 15, 1940 to Austin and Esther (Meagher) Corbett in Bathgate, ND.
He grew up in Pembina, ND. Wendell attended Mayville State University having earned a degree in music and later attended Bemidji State University where he obtained a Master degree in music. Wendell taught music at the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes Schools and later Mesabi East. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Holmen in 1962 until her passing in 1989. He remarried Kathleen Wippler in 1990, welcoming her family into his life. Wendell was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes. He enjoyed gardening, wood carving and wintering in Arizona with Kaye.
Survivors include his sons: Kendell, Brad (Rhonda) and Kevin Corbett; grandchildren: Alex, Samantha, Paysen, Austin, Jacob, Brooke, Annie, Caden, Paige, Kalub, Jager, and Cooper; several great-grandchildren; stepchildren: Mark (Lisa), Marty (Missy) and Julie Wippler; son-in-law, Russ Garvey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives: Marjorie and Kaye; daughter, Kary Garvey; sons: Michael at birth and Brent Corbett; stepson, Karl Wippler; as well as his parents.
Wendell’s family would like to thank the staff at Essentia Health-Northern Pines for the wonderful care Wendell received.
