Virginia M Weiss

Funeral Mass for Virginia M. Weiss, 95, of Virginia, formerly of Gilbert, will be 10:30 am Friday, June 21, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert with Fr. Michael Garry as celebrant. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday with recitation of the rosary at 6:30pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.  Visitation will also be one hour prior to the mass at church on Friday.  Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Virginia died peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Waterview Pines in Virginia, MN.

Virginia was born April 11, 1924 in Melrose, MN to George and Eleanor (Zirbes) Determan, the eldest of 13 children. She graduated from beauty school on April 15, 1943 and worked a short time at a beauty shop in Little Falls with her sister, Bernie.  Later, she took a position in Sauk Centre where she met her future husband, Frank, while giving his mother a permanent.

On June 12, 1945 she married Frank Weiss in Sauk Centre. Following their marriage, the couple moved 11 times in 12 years.  In 1952 they became Gilbert residents.  They became members of St. Joseph’s Parish where Virginia taught religious education for many years.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, sewing and baking.  Virginia was always known to have two fresh baked pies for her family every Sunday.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; children: Stephan (Shirley) Weiss of West Linn, OR, Robert (Janet) Weiss of Batavia, Il, Kenneth (Pat) Weiss of Ft. Wayne, IN, James (Janice) Weiss of Brainerd, MN, Kathy (Ken) Olson of International Falls, MN and Thomas (Holly) Weiss of Woodbury, MN; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; siblings, Bernie Jernigan, Jerry Determan, Jim Determan, Bob Determan, Dan Determan and Dave Determan; numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents. George and Eleanor (Zirbes) Determan; siblings, Evelyn Evans, Bea Decker, Ralph Determan, Dorothy Pulkka, Lou Ann Burns, and Jeannie Timp.
