Tyler Joel Mirau, age 42, passed away on November 26, 2025, just one month shy of his 43rd birthday. A man of immense heart and quiet strength, Tyler’s life was defined by his incredible athletic talent, his resilience, and his deep devotion to his family.
Born on December 27, 1982, to Patrick "Kirby" and Patricia (Rabb) Mirau, Tyler entered the world as a cherished gift. His arrival was marked by a rare and miraculous milestone: he had five generations of family members from both sides waiting to meet him.
From a young age, Tyler was a natural athlete who excelled in every sport he touched. At just nine years old, he won a local competition in Virginia, MN, which earned him the opportunity to compete at the Met Center in Bloomington for the "Future Stars" program, hosted by the Minnesota North Stars. Whether it was on the ice playing hockey, on the green golfing, or running cross country, Tyler’s competitive spirit and skill were undeniable. He also found great peace and joy in the outdoors, carrying a lifelong love for hunting and fishing.
A 2001 graduate of Mesabi East High School, Tyler moved to Mesa, Arizona, to professionally pursue his motocross training and career. He later attended the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) and Mesabi Community College, where he graduated with honors with an Associate of Arts degree in Wind Energy. Though his professional motocross journey was cut short by a life-altering accident and traumatic brain injury, Tyler’s story was one of incredible perseverance. He continued to move through life with a heart that remained full and open, cherishing every moment spent with those he loved.
Tyler’s greatest joy was his family. He loved with his whole heart and especially delighted in spending time with and spoiling his two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Steve and Marlys Rabb and Ray and Evelyn Mirau; his great-great-grandmothers, Laura Falto and Elsie Amundson; and his great-grandmother, Adeline Spangenberg.
Tyler’s legacy lives on through his parents, Patrick “Kirby” and Patricia Mirau; his brother, Garrett (Cali) Mirau; and his beloved nephews, Edwin and Emerson Mirau. He is also survived by his Godparents, Florence Hjelm and Steven (Tammy) Rabb; aunts and uncles Joe (Bev) Mirau, Greg (Robynne) Mirau, Kristine Rabb, and Jeff Rabb; as well as numerous cousins and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Tyler’s life 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Hoyt Lakes Community Building.
