Funeral service for Robert D. Boerger, 79, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 11am Friday, September 26, 2025 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Pastor Barbara Hegfors officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora.
Robert died Monday, September 15, 2025 at his home in Hoyt Lakes.
Bob was born October 3, 1945 in Twin Valley, Minnesota to Louis and Blanche (Gunderson) Boerger. He was a 1963 graduate of Aurora/Hoyt Lakes High School. Bob began working for Erie Mining Company and retired from LTV Steel with 32 years as a maintenance mechanic.
On October 5, 1991 he married Connie (Peterson) Walkama in Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved to Cambridge, Minnesota and resided there for 20 years. Following Connie’s death, Bob returned to Hoyt Lakes.
Bob was a singer/songwriter and was lead singer of the Country Roundup band. He was an active participant in the Range Country Shows in Palo for many years. In his earlier years, he coached his children in pony league basketball and was an active volunteer with Special Olympics. He also spent time volunteering at the local food shelf and coordinating the Walk-A-Thons.
Survivors include his children: Dean (Barb) Boerger of International Falls, DeAnn (Chad) Carlson of Wakefield, MI and Darryl (Julie) Boerger of Inver Grove Heights; step-son, Joe Walkama of Hoyt Lakes; grandchildren: John and Knute Boerger, Ashley (Ryan) Brown, Tori Carlson and Sara and Lauren Boerger; great grandsons, Sutton and Sawyer; brother, LeRoy (Betty) Boerger; sisters: Patricia Fields and Lois (DeWayne) Ingebretson; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Blanche; wife, Connie; daughter, Denise and a brother, Allen Boerger and an aunt, Myrtle Gunderson.
