A gathering of family and friends for Raymond Joseph “Cubby” Brula, 83, of Gilbert, will be 9am-11am Monday, August 4, 2025 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Burial with military honors accorded by the Gilbert VFW Honor Guard will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. A luncheon will be served following the committal at the cemetery at the Gilbert VFW Post.
He died Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at The Waterview Woods in Eveleth, Minnesota.
Raymond was born October 29, 1941 in Eveleth, Minnesota to Joseph and Agnes (Strukel) Brula. He later graduated with his GED while in military schooling.
He began working for Erie Mining Company in 1959 and retired from there in 1990 as a production truck driver. From 1960-1963 he served in the US Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and also witnessed the building of the Berlin Wall.
Cubby was a Life Member of the Gilbert VFW Post, a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Steelworkers Union 4108.
Survivors include his children: Tammy (Mark) Heitzman of Gilbert and Richard (Shari Erchul) Brula of Gilbert; grandchildren: Monty (Alethea) Heitzman, Jacob (Carissa Brakke) Heitzman, Grace Klander and Jason Brula; great grandson, Henry; Sister, Angeline “Nellie” Hurley; nieces and nephews: Kathy (David) Thomas, Cathy Johnson, Robert (Jill) Johnson and Jessica (Jye) Meier.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Agnes and a sister, Margie (Ray) Johnson; niece, Rae Ann Anderson; nephews: Joseph Videnich and Frank “Sonny” Videnich Jr.
