Peggy Lashmett

Memorial Mass 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert with Fr. David Forsman celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Internment will be in the Argo Cemetery in Babbitt at a later date. Arrangements are with the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.

Peggy Ann Lashmett, 67, of Gilbert died Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

Peggy was born on November 21, 1958 to Richard and Charlotte (Seiler) Kohanek in Ely. She graduated from the Babbitt High School, Class of 1977. She was a former member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt. Peggy was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN for over twenty years as a claims examiner, having retired in 2025. Peggy’s greatest passion in life was her family. She adored being a grandmother to her two grandsons, Peyton and Cohen.

Survivors include her son, Devin (Sara) Lashmett of Biwabik; two grandsons; Peyton and Cohen Lashmett; siblings; Lawrence (Sue) Kohanek of Shakopee MN, Sandy (Tim) Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Sue (Lenis) Mastin of Montgomery, MN and Karen (Pat) Fredrickson of Bemidji, MN; several nieces and nephews; special companion, Vince Ferkul of Eveleth and her lifelong friend, Jodi Thompson of Sioux City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
