Nick J Naglus

Nick Naglus, age 90, passed away unexpectedly on August 26 at Essentia Health in Duluth.

He was born in Wonewoc, Wisconsin, on August 3, 1936, to Clayton and Flossie Naglus. His growing-up years were spent in Wisconsin, where he graduated from Elroy High School in 1954.

In 1962, Nick welcomed the first of his three daughters.

Over the years, he worked in various fields, but always held onto a dream of one day owning a restaurant and bar.

Following a family breakup, Nick met Sally, who would become his wife and partner in the life they built together. In 1970, they married, blending their families into one family of six children. Together, they bought their first restaurant in Carver, Minnesota, the Riverside Bar & Cafe.

After 10 years, they relocated to the Iron Range, where they bought the Mooseline Cafe. In 1993, they also purchased, remodeled, and opened Timbers Edge Bar & Cafe.

Nick had many years of hard work, but found great satisfaction in caring for his customers, each of whom was important to him. After retiring in 2001, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of caring for his home, tending his garden, and canning. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, visiting with his children and grandchildren and welcoming friends old and new into his home.

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Lorie Ann Naglus and Cindy (Naglus) Hicks.

Nick is survived by his wife, Sally; his daughter, Patricia Hunnybun (Oliver); and stepchildren Lori Lehrer (Scott), Jeff Motschenbacher (Deb), and Marsi Motschenbacher (Rich); along with 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Nick will be remembered for his strong work ethic, the care he showed to those around him, and the life he built alongside Sally and their family. His presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at Loon Lake Community Center in Aurora, Minnesota. Interment will follow at Markham Cemetery.
