Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026 at the Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik with Pastor Drew Filkins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik at a later late. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Memorials are kindly preferred in lieu of flowers.
Michael James Warren, 88, of Bass Lake died Wednesday, August 8, 2026 at his home surrounded by family.
Michael was born on January 3, 1938 to LeRoy and Norma (Frye) Warren in Cloquet. He graduated from the Biwabik High School, Class of 1956. Following high school, he worked for Foley Construction, helping build Erie Mining Co. Michael started his career as a lab analyst for Erie Mining Co. in 1959 and retired from LTV Steel after forty years of service. Michael was united in marriage to Peggy Kauppi on May 2, 1959. The couple lived in Hoyt Lakes for nearly thirty years where they raised their family until building their retirement home on Bass Lake. Michael was a member of the Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik. He was a talented woodworker having made cedar chest for several of his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and wintering in Mexico for thirty years with Peggy. Mostly, Michael loved his family dearly and took the greatest pleasure in spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Peggy; children: Colleen (Steve) Michalski of Aurora, Pat (Tawni) Warren of Casper, WY, David (Tammy) Warren of The Villages, FL, Cristy Warren of Mahnomen, MN and Cathy (Dan) Paul of Waubun, MN; grandchildren: Katie (Tyler) Ranta, Eric (Sarah) Michalski, Patrick (Ruth) Warren, Kaelee (Keith) Warren, Jeremy (Jessica) Warren, Jake (Nikki) Warren, Megan (Brian) Smith, Adam Lauinger, Levi (Kayla) Lauinger, Macey (Connor) Cusick, Cody (Claudia) Cullen and Noah Paul; twenty-three great-grandchildren; in laws: Betty and Ron Anzelc, Helen Dewhurst and Kay Warren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis and his parents.
