Gathering of family and friends for Maurice Dean Nesset, 88, of Grand Rapids and Biwabik will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2025 at the Gilbert VFW. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Gilbert.

Dean died Friday, November 7, 2025 at his home in Grand Rapids.

He was born on July 24, 1937 to Melvin and Ruby (Engberg) Nesset in Bemidji. He graduated from Blackduck HS and then began an electrician apprenticeship. On October 25, 1958 he was united in marriage to Avis Morrow. Dean worked as an electrician for the Local 294 in the construction industry for forty-one years. He was one of the original founders of the Lakeland Fire Department of which he served for ten years as a first responder. Following Avis’ passing, Dean was remarried to Shirley Carrigan-Gilbert on November 5, 2023. Dean was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two daughters: Cindy (Brad Olson) Johnson and Tammy (Ron) Wilson; granddaughters: Tanya (Tom) Smith, Sheraya (Troy) Koenig and Kelli (Beau) Foreman; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Avis; daughter: Debbie Nesset; sisters: Donna, Marion and Carol; and his parents.
