Marie K. Lund

A Celebration of Life for Marie K. Lund, 88, of Eveleth, will be held 4:00pm-6:00pm Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Burial will be at a later date in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Saginaw, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of your choice in her memory.

Marie was welcomed into the hands of the Lord on Thursday July 17, 2025. She passed peacefully with her dear friend, Joan Plesha at her side.

Marie was born January 17, 1937 in Duluth, Minnesota to Frank and Helen (Anderson) Sokoloski. She was a 1955 graduate of Cotton High School and later married John A. Lund in Eveleth on November 26, 1960. Marie began working in data entry for Cleveland Cliffs in 1967 and worked at various locations in the iron mining industry. She retired in 1977 from the company with 30 years of service.

She and John enjoyed traveling the United States in their motorhome and was especially proud to drive and stay throughout Alaska. Fishing trips to Algoma on Lake Michigan and camping were enjoyed by them for many years. Marie knitted afghan quilts, and was an excellent baker.

Marie maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation of beauty and her love of friends and family throughout her life. She often expressed her gratitude for having such a good life.

She is survived by her sons: Duane (Linda) Lund of Aurora and Hans Lund of Silver Bay; grandchildren: Alyssa (Jeff) Leese, Tyler (Ashley) Lund and McKenna Lund; great grandchildren: Brayden Celley, Leni and Brooks Leese and Blake Pineo-Vogh; brother, Michael Oklak and sister-in-law, Mariann Isakson.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Sokoloski; husband, John; step-father, Sam Oklak; siblings: Robert and Daniel Sokoloski and Dorothy Smith.

Maries family would like to thank the staff of Northern Pines for their excellent care given, to the hospice team of caregivers and to her new friendships made there, especially to Joan, throughout her time living at the facility. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
