Margaret Louise Howes

A gathering of family and friends of Margaret Louise Howes, 89, of Hoyt Lakes, (Carefree Assisted Living of Aurora the past 3 years), will be on Friday, October 23, 2026 with Visitation at 10 AM and a prayer service at 11 AM at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Inurnment will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery

Margaret died Sunday, October 11, 2026 at Carefree Assisted Living in Aurora, Minnesota.

She was born July 25, 1937 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Peter and Alice (Wiowode) Schommer. She was a graduate of Mechanic Arts High School of St. Paul, Minnesota.

On May 19, 1956 she married Donald Howes in St. Paul Minnesota. The couple moved to Hoyt Lakes in 1958 where they raised their six children.

Margaret worked as a substitute in the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes School district in various capacities for many years. She was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, CCW, taught catechism, eucharistic minister and brought communion to the homebound. She was involved with the Hoyt Lakes Garden Club for years and was the treasurer for a few of those.

Survivors include her children: Scott (Cathy) Howes of Texas, Dawn (Michael) Kennedy of Iowa, Shelly (Joe) Dahmen of Aurora, Beth (Jeff) Chapman of New Prague, Donald Huntley of Hoyt Lakes: 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald; parents, Peter and Alice; son, Shawn; daughter , Mary; brothers, Donald and Paul; sister, Mary.
