A gathering of family and friends for Lowell Thomas, 75, of Eveleth, will be held from 5-7pm Friday, August 17, 2018 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Eveleth Cemetery.
Lowell died Monday, August 13, 2018 at his residence.
He was born December 14, 1942 in Eveleth, Minnesota to James and June (Tregenza) Thomas. Lowell was a 1962 graduate of Eveleth High School and later enlisted with the US Navy. He proudly served our country as a 20 year career veteran in the Navy. He married Carol Jacobson on July 1, 1967 in Eveleth.
He attended Eveleth Vo-Tech and moved to Eveleth in 1982. There, he owned and operated Hot and Cold Sports for seven years and later worked for Iron Trail Motors in the parts department for nearly 20 years.
Lowell was an avid sports fan and coached for the Bantam B’s, Jr. Gold Hockey and was a travel softball coach for ten years. For nearly 25 years he worked the light at the high school hockey games. He enjoyed golfing with his brother Jim and traveling with his wife, Carol to Branson; but being with his children Carrie and T.J. were of utmost importance.
Lowell is survived by his children: Carrie (Kelly Connell) Thomas of Cranford, NJ and Tommy “T.J.” (Gretchen) Thomas of Jackson, Wyo.; grandchildren: Autumn and Gianna; siblings: Jeff (Carol) Thomas of Eveleth and Janelle (Neal) Thuringer of Hoyt Lakes; sisters-in-law: Carol and Rosemary; several cousins, nieces and nephews, including Jessi and her children: Jordan, Jaden and Jakob.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol (2010), brothers: Jon and Jim; and his dog, Kruzin
