Lois Maki

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026 at United in Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth with Pastor Jeanne Madsen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.

Lois June Maki, 74, of Gilbert died Thursday, March 26, 2026 at her home.

She was born on June 6, 1951 to Nels and Ina (Nevala) Maki in Virginia. Lois graduated from the Gilbert High School, Class of 1969. After graduation Lois followed her high-school sweetheart, Herbert Clapsaddle Sr., to Texas while he was in the service. Together they married and had two children, Herbert Jr. and Carrie. Though their paths later diverged, Lois went on to build a life filled with love and family. Lois took pleasure in fishing with her grandkids and the many casino visits taken with her life partner of twenty-years, Robert Hill.

She had worked several jobs throughout her life including Range Office Supply, Hibbing Electronics, Mary’s Hallmark/Eveleth Pharmacy, Fingerhut, and retired from Delta Dental. Following retirement, Lois worked in customer service at the AEOA, a job she enjoyed. More recently, Lois enjoyed the Bone Builder’s exercise group at her apartment complex. Lois’s greatest joy was being a grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She relished the company of others and was happiest surrounded by people.

Lois’s life purpose was to serve dutifully by caring for others. This was evident in everything that she did and who she was. Her final wishes were that anyone who grieves her loss should turn to their friends and family to complete good deeds in her honor.

Survivors include her two children: Herbert (Jill) Clapsaddle Jr. and Carrie (Frank) Nemec; grandchildren: Noel (Jesse) Lind, Alex Goodale, Cory (Christie) Clapsaddle and Isaac Clapsaddle; great-grandchildren: Jersey, Jameson and Jackson Lind, Finnley Goodale, and Claire June Clapsaddle; brothers: Kenneth, Rudy, David (Betty Spragg), Richard and Harold (Cathy) Maki; Maki sisters: Diane Sarkela, Cindy (Roger) Nelson and Jeanne (David) Bombich; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Mohar; in-laws: Robert Mohar, Char and Linda Maki and Bernard Sarkela; life partner: Robert Hill and her parents.
