Lois Berdice

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at the Aurora United Methodist Church with Pastor Barb Hegfors officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Memorials are kindly preferred in lieu of flowers.

Lois Ann Berdice, 85, of Aurora died Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora surrounded by loved ones.

She was born on October 5, 1940 to Emil and Heyla (Pitkanen) Hietala in Biwabik. Lois graduated from the Aurora High School, Class of 1958 and furthered her education at Duluth Business University where she studied secretarial. Following college, Lois was employed as a secretary for Erie Mining until she was laid off. She had worked as a cook for various locations including Hank’s and Giants Ridge. Lois was united in marriage to Carl Berdice on September 26, 1961. She was a lifelong resident of Aurora. Lois was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the All Slavs Club and bowling leagues. She was an avid MN Sports fan. Lois enjoyed playing BINGO, dancing, polkas and puzzles. Lois was an animal lover and took the greatest pleasure in spending time with her family. Lois loved her family dearly. They were her greatest pride and joy. Lois was a loving and devoted wife, having visited Carl in the nursing home every day for eighteen years.

Survivors include her children: Kevin Berdice of Aurora, Carlene Bloss of Raleigh, NC, Keith Berdice of Aurora and Lisa (David) Lislegard of Aurora; grandchildren: Nathan Berdice, Anthony (Whitney) Bloss, Hailey (Kevin) Frost, Nadia Lislegard and Ollie Hraban; great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Caleb, Brianna and Heaven Frost; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; siblings: Russell Hietala, Gloria Maki and Delores Tynjala; and her parents.
