LeRoy Jafet Wiirre, age 89, of Buhl, died July 19, 2024, at home surrounded by his loved ones. LeRoy was born in New York Mills, MN to Jafet and Tynie Wiirre where he grew up on the farm. He came to the Iron Range where he met his first love Marjorie. LeRoy married Marjorie Heikkinen while also joining the US Army in that same year as a member of the artillery unit. He worked at Staver’s Foundry until he found his extended career at LTV-Erie Mining where he retired.
LeRoy and Marjorie shared a life together at Ely Lake with their 3 children Duane, LaRae & Renee until Marjorie’s passing.
LeRoy met a wonderful women and lifelong partner, Mary Ann Shuster who he married. They had 32 years together where they enjoyed many adventures traveling across the country. Some memorable times included their timeshare in Hawaii, cruise to Alaska and vacationing in the Caribbean. Their RV travels brought them to AZ before finding their snowbird home in Arcadia FL.
LeRoy lived a very fulfilling life enjoying golfing, hunting, and fishing but most of all, loved his extended family and friends. Survived by his wife, Mary Ann, son, Duane Wiirre, daughters, LaRae (Karl) Hansen and Renee (Paul) McCarthy, Colleen Shuster and Steve Shuster. Grandchildren, Adam (Alexa) Wiirre, Troy Birchem, Hunter Hansen, Brooke Norberg, Sarah McCarthy & Collin McCarthy. Siblings, LeVonne Dertinger, Lennis (Donna) Wiirre, Luther Wiirre, Leland (Anjanette) Wiirre, Lawrence (Lois) Wiirre and numerous other relatives.
Preceded in death by parents, Jafet & Tynie, his first wife, Marjorie, Grandson Tyler Birchem and Daughter-in-law, Pauline Wiirre. Brothers Leslie, Laverne, & Louis and other beloved family members.
Celebration of life will be at United in Christ Lutheran Church, Eveleth 11:00am Tuesday July 30, 2024 with visitation one hour before. Burial will follow in the Gilbert Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.
LeRoy lived life true to the meaning of SISU. Determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness--all which he instilled to those that loved him!
