John L. Zins, 83, formerly of Hoyt Lakes died on Thursday, September 20, 2018, in his home at Brookdale Assisted Living in Eagan, MN.
John was born June 25, 1935, in Fulda, MN, to Leo and Louise (Hanten) Zins. He was a 1953 graduate of Fulda High School and later married Marlene Miller on October 27, 1955, in Fulda. They moved to Hoyt Lakes in 1957 where John worked at LTV Steel (formerly Erie Mining Company) where he retired as an Assistant General Foreman in January 1996. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports, playing fast pitch softball for Don's Mobile and TRC slow pitch softball for the Sooners, and spending time with his beloved Brittany Spaniel Zoey at his hunting shack.
His is survived by his children David (Sheri) Zins of Hoyt Lakes, Brian (Nancy) Zins of Prior Lake, Debbie Kerr of Lakeville, and Michael (Heather) Zins of Lakeville; two brothers, Lawrence and Philip Zins of Fulda, one brother-in-law, Gerald (Carole) Miller of Wichita Falls, Texas, and grandchildren Ryan, Casey, Justine, Garrett, Dylan, Michaela, Marissa, and Macy, and one great-granddaughter Camdyn. Also, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Louise, wife Marlene, son Gregory, and son-in-law Allen Kerr, and father/mother-in-law George and Mildred Miller.
Funeral Mass to be held at 10:30am Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes with Fr. Peter Lambert as celebrant. Visitation will be at 9:30AM at the church. Interment at the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora.
