John Plevell

Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Aurora with Fr. David Forsman celebrating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Inurnment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Military honors will be accorded by the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Memorials are kindly preferred in lieu of flowers.

John F. Plevell, 97, of Aurora died Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora.

John was born on July 29, 1928 to John and Pauline (Zakrajsek) Plevell in Aurora. He graduated from Aurora High School, Class of 1948. Following high school, he worked at Lake Mining Company. In 1950, John was drafted into the US Army having served during Korean War. Upon, his honorable discharge, John was employed by Erie Mining Co and later retiring from LTV Steel as a Warehouse Clerk. On April 19, 1969, John was united in marriage to Joanne (Putzel) Gauthier. He was a member of the Aurora American Legion Post #241, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the KSKJ Lodge and the American Recreation Board.

Survivors include his daughter, Deb (Pat) Soular of Grand Rapids; grandchildren: Dan (Jess Ortman) Soular of Grand Rapids and Kelly (Aaron) Aamold of Shakopee; great-grandchildren: Bo Soular and Atley and Amaya Aamold; siblings: Bernice Ceglar of Aurora, Jim Plevell of Aurora and Louis Plevell of Hastings; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; siblings: Florence, Pauline, Mary, Frank, Tony, Stanley, Jene Rose and Joseph in infancy; and his parents.
