John A. Lund

Funeral service will be 10 am Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Pastor Jeanne Madsen officiating.   Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Duluth.  Memorials are kindly preferred in lieu of flowers.

John Allen Lund, 91, of Eveleth died Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Essentia Health-Virginia.

He was born on February 10, 1932 to Hans and Olga (Anderson) Lund in Duluth.  John graduated from the Denfeld High School, Class of 1950.   He enlisted into the US Army, serving during the Korean War.  John worked various jobs throughout his life.  Most recently for MN Department of Transportation.  He retired after twenty plus years of service.  He was united in marriage to Marie Sokoloski on November 26, 1960.

John was a member of the American Legion of Virginia.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and outdoor Christmas decorating.  Hobby farming was one of John’s passions, especially his tractors.  He took great pleasure in attending his grandchildren’s school and sports activities.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marie; two sons: Duane (Linda) Lund of Aurora and Hans Lund of Silver Bay; grandchildren: Alyssa (Jeff) Leese of Gilbert, Tyler (Ashley Vogh) Lund of Aurora and McKenna Lund of Chippewa Falls, WI; great-grandchildren: Brayden Celley and Leni and Brooks Leese; sister, Mariann Isakson of Duluth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Solveig, Ruthie and Ella May; and his parents.

John’s family would like to thank the caregivers at Diamond Willow for the excellent care he received.
