John ‘Boiga’ Kangas passed away November 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He spent his final moments at home surrounded by family and friends on the farm he loved so much.
Boiga was born April 15, 1955, in Virginia, Minn., to John and Geraldine Kangas and graduated from Aurora Hoyt Lakes High School class of 1973. A hard-working gentle soul who loved a good conversation, Boiga had a long rewarding career in the family excavating business. He was active with many different organizations throughout his life and made lasting friendships. Since retiring from the family business Boiga returned to the family tradition of raising beef cattle and processing hay for cattle and horses. He loved planning his next year’s projects in “man land” while also learning to play the guitar. Every summer was the annual trip to the Minnesota State Fair and the dairy building for ice cream followed in December with the National Finals Rodeo and Cowboy Christmas. During the fall Boiga loved his hunting trips to North Dakota and spending time with his nephew Justin and his family. He enjoyed riding his horse Max and spending time with his two dogs.
Boiga is survived by his wife, Debbie and mother, Geraldine Kangas; his brothers: Robert (Jane), Richard (Jodie) Kangas; nephew, Justin (Holly) Kangas and their children: Olivia and Dax; niece, Kadyn Kangas, Luke, Jordyn (Andrew) their children Lincoln and Scottie, and Carissa (Jake) in addition to many extended family and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Kangas.
