Joanne A. Pelzer

Funeral Mass for Joanne Alice “Joanie” Pelzer, 92, of Ely Lake, Eveleth, will be 10am Friday, December 29, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will continue for one hour prior to the mass at church on Friday. Burial will be at a later date in the Gilbert Cemetery.

Joanne died Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.

She was born March 6, 1931 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Theodore and Elizabeth (Petron) Hoffman.  Joanne was a graduate of St. Cloud Cathedral High School and later married Herman Pelzer on June 25, 1953.

They resided in St. Cloud, moved to Little Falls in 1960 where they operated the 371 Club.  IN June 1973 the family moved to Gilbert where Joanie co-owned and operated Hermies Bar until 1981.

She was an active member of the Gilbert VFW Auxiliary, serving countless spaghetti dinners and funeral lunches over the years.  She also held several offices over the years in the Auxiliary.  She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Virginia Bowling League.  She enjoyed fishing, BINGO, dancing and was an avid gardener who enjoyed canning dill pickles.  In 2006 she and her son were chosen for the Minnesota Moose hunt in which they were successful.

Survivors include her children: Linda (Max) Dabney of Texas, Jeff Pelzer of Eveleth and Cindy (Keith) Siers of Cedar Falls, IA; eight grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother, Ronald Hoffman of Sauk Rapids; sister, Carole Wurst of St. Cloud.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Elizabeth; Husband, Herman; brother, Delroy (1948)
