Visitation for Jeremy David Liimatta, 47, of Gilbert, will be held from 3:00pm-6:00pm Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm Monday April 28, 2025 in the Gilbert Cemetery with Deacon Mark Skala officiating.
Jeremy died Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Essentia Health – Virginia after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born June 8, 1977 in Virginia, Minnesota to David and Rosalyn (Nosen) Liimatta. Jeremy was a 1996 graduate of Eveleth-Gilbert High School and later attended Mesabi Range Community College earning his Associates Degree. In 2002 Jeremy began working for the Eveleth-Gilbert Public Schools as a paraprofessional and was employed there until illness forced him to step aside.
Jeremy served as the Assistant Theater Director for many years with the Eveleth-Gilbert Theater, later becoming Director. He also directed many One-Act plays. In his earlier years he drove Zamboni for the City of Gilbert skating rink. He previously served as a City of Gilbert City Councilman and was head Election Judge in Gilbert for many years. Jer was quiet in nature, yet a very social person in his school and community. He will be missed as a caring son, brother, uncle and friend.
Survivors include his mother, Rosalyn Liimatta of Gilbert; brothers: Ken and Jon Liimatta of Gilbert; nephew, Mikko Liimatta of Gilbert; aunts: Donna (Jerry) Starc, Shelley (Dan) Anttila and Shirley Nosen; many cousins and his canine companion, Autumn.
He is preceded in death by his father, David; grandparents: Ludwig and Rose Nosen and Ray and Doris Liimatta; uncle, Frank “Bud” Nosen; aunt, Connie McGath
