Funeral Mass for Ernest Stephen “Steve” Rabb, 83, of Aurora, will be 11am Friday, November 30, 2018 at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Aurora with Fr. Peter Lambert as celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-6pm with recitation of the rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 5:45pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the mass at church on Friday. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora, MN.
Ernest died Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Eveleth Health Services Park in Eveleth, MN.
Ernest was born March 4, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to Ernest S. and Marion (Simonich) Rabb. He was a 1953 graduate of Aurora High School and attended Eveleth Jr. College. He began working in the St. James Mine and served seven years with the US Army National Guard.
On August 10, 1957 he married Marlys Spangenberg in Biwabik. He transferred to Erie Mining Company and worked as a truck driver. He retired from the lab at LTV Steel in 1994.
Ernest was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Aurora and served on its parish council. He was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Bishop Baraga for over 60 years and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Msgr. Buh. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. But locally, he would often be seen on his daily walks where he enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors along the way. He was also a longtime volunteer for the Meals-on-Wheels program.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marlys; children: Patricia (Kirby) Mirau, Steve Rabb, Jeffrey Rabb and Kristine Rabb; four grandchildren: Tyler Mirau, Garrett (Cali) Mirau, Jacob Zabrocki and Gabrielle Rabb; great grandson, Edwin Mirau; siblings: Joan Domanoski, Theresa (Dave) McGauley, Lawrence (Shirley) Potocnik, Robert (Carol) Potocnik and Barbara (Allen) Kalar and Dr. James Potocnik; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his step father, Michael Potocnik.
