Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Pastor Jeanne Madsen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Eveleth Cemetery.

Donald S. Erickson, 84, of Hutter died April 24, 2026 at Edgewood Vista in Virginia.

Donald was born April 30, 1941, in Eveleth, to Olaf and Myrtle (Swanson) Erickson. He was a 1959 graduate of Gilbert High School and attended Eveleth Jr. College where he took technical and math classes. Donald was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He returned to the U.S. and was honorably discharged in 1966. He began working at the Erie Mining Company following his military service. Donald started as a laborer then worked his way up to instrument repair technician retiring from LTV in 2000 with 35 years of service. “Dunk” was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and ricing. He and his family shared many good times at the Erickson Farm and Coe Lake Shack. His grace as downhill and water skier were legendary.

Donald will be sadly missed by his brother, Ray (Linda) Erickson; brother-in- law, Carmen “Sonny” Fumia; his nieces: Tracy (John) McMorrow, Jean (Mike Sandor) Toninato and Wanda (Jeff ) Cimermancic; nephews: Michael (Laurie) Fumia, Jim (Jenee Centeno) Fumia, Mark (Rhonda) Fumia, Ray (Sheryl) Erickson, Harold (Scott Burke) Seay, Nels (Joan Zurn) Erickson, and Carl Erickson; as well as many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Richard; sister, Shirley Fumia; sister-in-law Doris Erickson; and nephew, Brian Erickson.
