Darin P Meehan

Funeral Mass for Darin Paul Meehan, 48, of Chisholm, will be 10am Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert with Fr. Charles Flynn as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church.  Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.

Darin died Monday, May 13, 2019 at Fairview Hospital in Hibbing, MN.

He was born April 26, 1971 to John and Edith (Homola) Meehan. Darin attended special education in Virginia and received his diploma from there.  He worked well over 15 years for the East Range DAC in Eveleth and was involved with Special Olympics for several years.

Darin enjoyed pontoon rides and listening to polka music, but Johnny Cash was his all-time favorite. His favorite pastime was watching thunderstorms which he called “crash, bang, boom.”  Darin was always the center of attention and brought joy and laughter to all he knew.

Survivors include his parents, John and Edith “Dee Dee” Meehan of Gilbert; siblings: Larry (Anna) Meehan of Eveleth and Mark Meehan of Gilbert; nieces: Brooke (Kyle) Ross of Hoyt Lakes, Michele Meehan of Eveleth and Samantha (Jaron) Maki of West Eveleth; great nieces: Emma Sullivan and Eleanor Ross; his aunt and best friend, Verna Ranta; many close friends and caregivers for the developmentally disabled at NHS.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Michael.

Darin’s family would like to thank the entire staff for the care and gratitude given to him by NHS Northstar for the past 17 years.
