Carter Hollis Hagen, 75, of Gilbert, Minnesota died peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the Essentia Health Hospital in Virginia, Minnesota.

Carter was born September 7, 1947 in Ada, Minnesota to Carl and Hazel (Larson) Hagen.

After high school, Carter enlisted in the Air Force in July of 1966. During his time in the Air Force, he served in Vietnam. He was a proud veteran who honored his fellow veterans, personally and formally as an active member of the VFW.

On November 25, 1972 he married Lois Paun and would devote the next 37 years to their inseparable partnership.

Carter loved the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time at the shack, hunting, and riding his motorcycle.  He also loved being around his friends and he had plenty of them. He could not go anywhere without running into somebody he knew.  With soft-spoken kindness and a friendly nature, he was always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to anyone in need.

Carter is survived by his children, Heather (Scott) Lammers and Carrie Salmia; grandchildren, Arokey, Branden, Ibrahim, Brody, Sakeena, and Nasira; siblings, Brenda Kjenaas and June Wakefield; nephew, Dan Hackey; and dear companion of his later years, Terri Hiller.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; parents, Carl and Hazel; and nephews, Joey, Jesse, and Keith.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the Peace United Methodist Church in Virginia, Minnesota at 11:00am. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Following the service, inurnment will be at the Gilbert Cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded with the Gilbert Honor Guard.

Arrangements are with Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.
