Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2026 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Pastor Mary Lou Sixberry officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine. Memorials are kindly preferred to the Trinity Methodist Church in Hoyt Lakes.

Carol Mae Ellis, 94, of Hoyt Lakes passed away on February 17, 2026 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora.

She was born on December 11, 1931 to Loyal and Lois (Struble) Johnson in Jamestown, ND. Shortly after her family moved to Middle River, MN. Carol attended Bemidji State University where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. Carol was united in marriage to John Ellis in 1956. The couple lived in Hibbing where Carol taught before moving to Hoyt Lakes. Carol taught second grade at the Gertrude Boase Elementary School in Hoyt Lakes before retiring in 1989. Her summers were spend traveling with her mother all around Europe and as well as Australia. She was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Hoyt Lakes where she served as Treasurer and as President of the United Methodist Women. Carol enjoyed quilting, knitting and gardening.

Survivors include her sons: Bruce Ellis of Naperville, IL and Jim (Cara) Ellis of Eveleth; daughter, Jean (Larry) Cote of Columbia, CT; two grandchildren: John (Jennifer Kraml) Ellis and Chelsea Cote; two great-grandsons: Ethan and Evan Ellis all of whom loved her raspberry patch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her parents.
