Brent Corbett

February 9, 1971 — August 30, 2025

Hoyt Lakes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brent Corbett, age 54, of Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota. Born on February 9, 1971, Brent was always passionate about his education and career. He graduated from Mesabi East High School and moved on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of North Dakota. He worked as a chemical engineer, director of operations, and director of business development for his entire adult life.

However, his passion for his career did not compare to his devotion and love for his family and friends, and for his absolute love of hockey. Brent was a devoted son, brother, stepbrother, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of everyone he met. Whether it was cheering on teams at the college Frozen Four hockey tournaments, avidly attending pro hockey games, or even playing hockey as the team’s goalie, Brent always shared his love of the sport with the people closest to him.

Brent will be remembered for his kind heart, his generosity, and his affable personality. He went out of his way to greet everyone when he walked into a room, would remember to check in on everyone else’s loved ones, and would cheerfully offer advice. He made these same efforts for his friends and family who lived across the country, all of whom he would call simply because he was thinking of them.

Brent is survived by his father, Wendell Corbett; brothers: Kendell Corbett, Brad (Rhonda) Corbett, Kevin Corbett; brother-in-Law, Russ Garvey; stepsiblings: Mark (Lisa) Wippler, Marty (Missy) Wippler, and Julie Wippler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Corbett; stepmother, Kaye Corbett; sister Kary Garvey; brother, Michael Corbett; and stepbrother Karl Wippler.
