Beverly Jean Mauer

August 25, 1930 — May 24, 2021

Beverly “Buzz” Jean Mauer, 90, of Aurora died Monday, May 24, 2021, at her home in Aurora surrounded by family under hospice care. At her repeated instructions, there will be no formal services. As “wooden spoon survivors”, we shall honor this. We thank Keith Shatava of Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora for helping us during this difficult time.

Mom was born August 25, 1930, in Orient, Iowa to Cecil and Ruby (Rice) Ford. The family lived near Creston, Iowa before moving to a farm near Cherry Grove, MN where she graduated from Wykoff High School in Fillmore County. We children believe that it was in Iowa that she learned how to “warsh” her clothes rather than “wash” them and we never tired of picking on her about that.

She was united in marriage to the best man ever, Walter Mauer, on September 20, 1975, in South Dakota. They made their home in Aurora where mom continued to live until her death.

Animals, children, education, kindness, humility, humor, and being a helper were all things important to mom. The Mesabi Humane Society, Contented Critters, Mesabi East Project Elf, the Mesabi East Environmental Education Center, and the United Methodist Church of Aurora were special to her in case you would like to make a memorial in her name.

Survivors include her children: Craig Finke of Hoyt Lakes, Marcia (Jim) Bass of Douglas Wyo., Clay Clear of Aurora, Sharon Jensen of Hoyt Lakes, Barbara Hinsz of rural Aurora; and stepson, Scott (Sherry) Mauer of Maple Grove; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Cecil and Ruby; husband Walter; daughter Rachelle; brothers: Billy and Calvin; sister Betty in infancy; granddaughter Brianna.

The family would like to thank Jennifer Kober and the staff of the Essentia Heart Center and Nurse Heather and the St. Mary’s Hospice team for helping mom to both live and to transition in the best ways possible. We will be forever grateful to you.
