Anthony "Butch" Ceglar

Aurora, MN

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Aurora with Pastor John Jacquart officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery Columbarium in Aurora. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Memorials are kindly preferred in lieu of flowers.

Anthony “Butch” Edward Ceglar, 77, of Aurora died Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at this home surrounded by family. Butch was born on June 18, 1948 to Rudolph and Jean (O’Brien) Ceglar in Virginia. He grew up in the Miller Location in Aurora and attended Aurora -Hoyt Lakes High School graduating from the Class of 1966. Butch went to work at Erie Mining Company for a short time before being drafted into the US Army. He served from 1968-1970 until his honorable discharge. Butch was united in marriage to Joanne Asmund on January 9, 1969 in Bessemer, MI. He had been employed by Inland Steel as a millwright for thirty years until his retirement. Butch was a lifetime member of the Aurora American Legion serving as Past Commander and has been a dedicated member of the Honor Guard. Butch was an active citizen of Aurora. He volunteered on the Cemetery Board and as a Aurora Firefighter for several years. Butch enjoyed attending classic car shows and had a fondness for dogs.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Joanne; son, Steve (Deanne) Ceglar of Aurora; grandson, Shawn Ceglar of Hibbing; siblings: Bonnie Jones of Hoyt Lakes, Jeanne (John Jamnick) Ceglar of Aurora, and John Ceglar of S. St. Paul; sister and brother in law: Helen and Ben Shannon of Prior Lake; numerous nieces and nephews including special nephew, Brian Ceglar; and his four legged canine friends: Molly and Kasper.

He was preceded in death by his siblings: Rudy and Mary Jo Ceglar; his parents; and beloved dog, Ellie.

Butch’s family would like to thank all the medical staff at the Essentia Health Clinic, Hospice and Medical Center for their wonderful care and the loving support he received from his family and friends.
