Memorial service for Walter Paul Mauer, 81, of Aurora, will be 1pm Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora with Pastor Barbara Hegfors officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora with military honors accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Mr. Mauer passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010 in his sleep at St. Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Duluth. He was born Sept. 3, 1929 in Fergus Falls, MN to Peter and Exie (Granger) Mauer. The family eventually moved to Strandquist, MN where he attended school and worked on the family farm. Later, he went to Montana and worked in the logging camps and from there entered the US Army in July 1954, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was discharged in 1956. Following his military service, he began working for Erie Mining Company in June 1956 as a heavy equipment operator and retired from there in December 1992. Walt’s passion in life was fishing, friends and family. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora, the Aurora American Legion Post 241 and SOAR. He is survived by his wife, Beverly, son, Scott (Sherry) Mauer of Maple Grove, granddaughters, Brooke (Andrew) Kaiser of Coon Rapids and Ashley Mauer of St. Louis Park, great grandson, Weston Scott Kaiser, six step-children, Craig Finke of Hoyt lakes, Marcia (Jim) Bass of Douglas WY, Rachelle Peterson, Clay Clear, Barbara Hinz all of Aurora, Sharon (Ron) Jensen of Babbitt, sister, Leona Chwialkowski of Lake Bronson, MN, sister-in-law: Hellen Wykstra of Aurora and niece Carrie Trygstad, brothers-in-law, Peter Filipiak of Green Bay, WI and Richard Ebbinga of Arkansaw, WI, 12 step grandchildren, 12 step great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and one aunt. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Estelle, infant son, Michael, sisters, Rose Mary Hahn and Lillian Filipiak, his parents, Peter and Exie, step-granddaughter, Brianna, nephews, Gary Filipiak and James Ebbinga, sister-in-law, Murlys Ebbinga. _______________________________________________________________________
