Funeral Service for Fred J. Paul, 85, of Aurora, will be 11am Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Aurora with Rev. Amy Eisenmann officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7pm at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora and continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Mr. Paul died Friday, November 5, 2010 at Essentia Health - Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora. He was born Nov. 15, 1924 in Bellingham, MN to George and Julia (Lammel) Paul. Fred was the eldest child with two younger siblings. Following his schooling, he served with the US Navy from May 1943-March1946. On Oct. 19, 1946 he married Alice Marie Thompson in Ortonville, MN. They moved to Aurora in 1952 where Fred worked as a truck driver at St. James Mine for 12 years. Following the mine's closing, Fred began his own carpentry business, Fred J. Paul Construction. Fred had a very strong work ethic and built many homes on the eastern Iron Range. "He's a hard worker" people always said. Fred was a Charter Member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and a member of the Aurora American Legion Post 241. Fred was a very dedicated MN Twins and Vikings fan and his favorite jacket and cap always display their emblem. He was known for being punctual and was an excellent billiard player. Fred especially enjoyed wintering in Alamo, TX. For 15 years he enjoyed the warmth, the sunshine and the abundance of fresh fruit which he had every morning. This was followed by his daily trip to 'the hall' for billiards. Survivors include his son, Jim Paul of Palo, daughters, Judy (Tom) Lehtinen of TX, Bonnie Christensen of Ely, Vicki (Jerry) Bauman of CO and Janet (Leonard) Shambow of Hastings, 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice, brothers, Raymond and Marcus.
