Memorial service for Donald L. "Bud" Petersen, 78, of Aurora, will be 1pm Wed. Jan. 27, 2010 in St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Palo with Rev. Amy Eisenmann officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Mr. Petersen died Sat. Jan. 23, 2010 in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. He was born July 25, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN to Walter and Rose Petersen. He attended school in Aitkin and later served our country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Greenland. Following his military service, Bud spent several years working construction in Montana. In 1970 he married Bonnie Workman and the couple moved to the Iron Range. Bud worked at US Steel as a track foreman, retiring in 1994. He was a farmer at heart and in deed! Bud loved the outdoors - fishing, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time at the casino, watching westerns and reading. Bud was a member of the Gilbert Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, the Aurora American Legion Post and St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife: Bonnie; children: Walter (Connie) Petersen, Bill (Patty) Petersen, Donna (Ted) Anderson, Patty (Scott) Jacobson, Penny (Scott) Heikkinen, Wendy (Cory) Korva and Eve (Jerry) Barry; 16 grandchildren: Shane, Chad, Tony, Christa, Stacy, Mandy, Kenny, Patrick, Paul, Josh, Shannon, Breianna, Ally, Kyle, Beau and Samantha; 2 great grandchildren: Dylan and Brayden; siblings: Charlotte, Jim, Marlys, Duyane and Warren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
