Gertrude M. Laine

Funeral services for Gertrude Mary Laine, 99, will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Mary Lou Sixberry, CLM, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. Gertrude died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 10, 2017, at Essentia Health- St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. Gertrude was born on January 8, 1918, to Jesse and Henrietta (Williams) McKechnie in Gilbert, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in Gilbert, graduating from Gilbert High School, Class of 1934. Following high school, she continued her education studying business. This led to her favorite job as a secretary at the Minnesota State Capitol. Gertrude was united in marriage to Raymond Nestor Laine on January 20, 1940 in Eveleth, where they started their family. They soon moved to Minneapolis as Raymond was transferred by the Greyhound Bus Company. Gert and Ray enjoyed many summers at their cottage on Lake Esquagama. Following Ray's retirement, they purchased a home in Hoyt Lakes where they spent their winters, and the cottage remained their summer retreat. Survivors include two children: Terry (Jeanne) Laine of Murphy Lake near Eveleth; Susan, (David) Eidenschink of Detroit Lakes; daughter-in-law Dawn Laine of Golden Valley; three grandchildren: Todd (Ioana) Laine of Tampa, FL; Nick (Jill) Eidenschink of Hermantown; Megan (Brian) Nelson of Maplewood; five great grandchildren: Julia and Erik Laine: Kale and Mason Eidenschink; and Raya Nelson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; son, Donald; brother, Russell (Myrtle) McKechnie; and sister, Ila (Oscar) Almquist.
