Hilja Johnson

Funeral service for Hilja Aune Johnson, 99, of Aurora will be 11 am Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora with Pastor Eric Thiele officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Rauha Cemetery in Palo. Hilja died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora. Hilja was born on May 25, 1917 to Erick and Anna (Aho) Paaso in Palo. She attended country school in Palo #84. Hilja married Arne Mattson in 1933. Hilja was a proud homemaker and mother. In 1948 Hilja was united in marriage to Willie Johnson. She was a member of the Aurora American Legion Auxiliary, Aurora Senior Citizens, and the Women’s Life Insurance Society. Hilja had been a volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and gardening. Hilja especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include two sons: William (Jannet) Mattson of Mt. Iron and Gerald (Betty) Mattson of Aurora; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six siblings and her parents.
