Thomas Melford Jackson Jr.

Funeral service for Thomas Melford Jackson Jr., 82, of Mt. Iron, formerly of Sparta, will be 10:30am Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with Pastor Mark Mathes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. He died Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Essentia Health in Duluth, MN. Thomas was born December 28, 1934 in Turtle Creek, PA to Thomas Sr. and Margaret (Walters) Jackson. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in the electrical engineering program. He had a 42 year career in the engineering and construction industry. During that time, 25 years were spent at US Steel as a project manager. On October 11, 1980 he married Lisa Kehoe in Illinois. They returned to Sparta in 1996 and lived there for 20 years. Recently they moved to Mt. Iron. Tom enjoyed playing gospel music on the Dobro and working on home construction projects. He was especially proud of his hand made Lionel Train set. Survivors include his wife, Lisa; children: Bonny (Michael) Hetzel of Lake Orion, Mich, Karen (Tim) Officer of Soudan, Tom E. Jackson of Tower, David Jackson of Tower and Lynn (Mike Lombardy) Jackson of Soudan; grandchildren: Mattias, Jon, Evan, Bettina and Trista; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Tom is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Alice; and a brother, Bill Jackson.
