Wendell C. Sabin

Funeral service for Wendell Charles Sabin, 85, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10:30am Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes with Pastor Eric Thiele officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard will be in the Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home. Wendell died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Northland Village in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota. He was born October 2, 1931 in Virginia, Minnesota to Leon and Violet (Ostlund) Sabin. Wendell was a 1949 graduate of Virginia High School and later worked for the Duluth Winnipeg Pacific Railroad. In 1951 he enlisted with the US Army. He proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict where he was the recipient of two bronze service stars. He received his Bachelor’s Degrees in Education and Business from University of Minnesota – Duluth and University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. On September 1, 1956 he married Dolores Miladin in Virginia, Minnesota. Wendell taught elementary school for the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes public school system for nearly 40 years. He influenced the lives of many of his students and cared greatly for them during his career. He was an avid outdoorsman who was artistically talented and was often drawing or painting. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Hoyt Lakes VFW Post and the Aurora American Legion Post where he proudly served in the color guard for many years. Survivors include his sons: Jeffrey (Lolly) Sabin of Eveleth and their son, Daniel (Heather) and their children, Brody and Mackenzie; Jason (Lynn Hochevar) of Palo and their family, Angela (Chris) and Alanna (Joe) and their children, Hayden and Lucy; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Violet; wife Dolores “Dee”; siblings: Gloria and John.
