Funeral Mass for Nicholas G. Vukelich of Gilbert will be Noon Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth with Fr. Charles Flynn and Fr. Eamonn Boland Con-celebrants. A visitation will be held from 10 am until the Noon Mass. Inurnment will 2 pm Friday, April 29, 2016 Gilbert Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Gilbert Color Guard. Arrangements are by the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the kitchen renovation funds at St. Joseph’s of Gilbert or Resurrection of Eveleth Catholic Parishes. Nick Gilbert Vukelich died peacefully Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth at the age of 86. Nick was born on October 25, 1929 to Nick and Mary (Biondich) Vukelich in Gilbert. He was a graduate of the Gilbert High School, Class of 1947 and also of the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis where he studied air conditioning and refrigeration. He had worked at the Mary Ellen Mine for a time. Nick enlisted in the US Army from 1951-1953 where he served his country during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home, Nick joined his father in running Nick’s Bar in Gilbert. As of April 1, 1954, Nick was the owner and operator of Nick’s Bar for the next 61 years until selling the business on March 19, 2015 due to illness. Nick was a member of the Gilbert V.F.W, St. Joseph’s and Resurrection Catholic Churches and the Eveleth Elks Club. Nick will be remembered by hundreds of friends who will miss his wit and big hearted personality. Survivors include his brother: Mark (Ruth) Vukelich of St. Paul; his sister: Mary Ann (William) Sullivan of Santa Rosa, CA; and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Vukelich; and his parents, Nick and Mary Vukelich.
