Joseph Nick Mrkonjich

Joseph Nick Mrkonjich, 85, of Makinen, died Thursday March 21, 2013 at his residence. At his request, there will be no formal funeral service. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home. Joseph was born December 28, 1927 in Hibbing, MN to Joseph and Matilda (Mohar) Mrkonjich. Joseph served with the US Marines in China during WWII. On October 17, 1948 he married Betty White. Joseph began working as a miner and in 1989 retired from LTV Steel as a shovel operator. Survivors include his wife, Betty; children: Thomas of Tennessee, Kathy Miller of Duluth, Cindy Fettig of Florida and Michael of Duluth; sister, Mary Branham of Fredricksburg, VA and two grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Frederick; sister, Olga.
